Using this easy and convenient online service, businesses with a valid account number may make
payments and account changes for the following taxes: business license, business tangible property,
food and beverage, admissions, lodging, room, and short term rental taxes
Initial applications for a new Business License are NOT accepted through this website. Please
contact the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue, Business Revenue Team at 757-664-7886 or
apply online at the Commissioner’s website www.norfolk.gov/revenue
for a new Business License.
In accordance with Norfolk City Code, business license payments and business personal property filing forms
are due on or before March 1. Other business taxes are due on or before the 20th of the month following
the tax period. Taxpayers are responsible for retaining confirmation of any payment or account change.
The date and time of filings to the Commissioner of the Revenue will correspond with the confirmation information
provided to the taxpayer and could be used for the assessment of penalty and/or interest as may be required by
Virginia and/or City of Norfolk Code. The City assumes no responsibility for incorrect information entered by
the taxpayer. Failure to understand any information provided herein will not constitute grounds for the waiver
of any penalties or interest due to late filings or payments.
The following payment options and convenience fees are available when using this facility:
- Enter the filing information online, print the filing invoice then mail the invoice and payment as currently done. (No additional fee)
- E-Check is available for a fee of $1.50 (1 dollar 50 cents) per transaction. (Fee subject to change at the discretion of the City Treasurer)
- Credit cards and PayPal online payment services are available and these are secure and convenient options for paying taxes. A convenience fee of approximately 2.2% per item PLUS a transaction fee of $0.30 (30 cents) will be added. Adjustments or payments processed through this system may not be reflected immediately.
